Certified product mark for structural concrete (Officially Recognised Standards EHE-08)

Distinctions, certifications or quality marks on prepared concrete have existed for decades. In recent years, its value has been revitalised as a result of regulatory changes that favour its use. The EHE-08 was the first step. The future Structural Code and the Technical Building Code delve into concrete quality certificates.

Distintivo calidad hormigon DOR EHE 08

EHE-08, Structural Concrete Instruction, establishes the possibility that products such as concrete have Officially Recognised Distinctions (DOR). This quality certification of the concrete ensures a greater standardisation of the product and reduces quality controls on site.

In Spain, at present, there are the following certifications or quality marks on prepared concrete:

  • N Mark for structural concrete (EHE-08),
  • Applus+ quality mark for concrete
  • AW mark for concrete (All World Certification),
  • BVC mark for concrete. Officially Recognised Distinction Bureau Veritas.

Construction is a complex process that requires the intervention of multiple agents. This sector is significant economically and has a high impact on people and goods’ safety, which is why tests are carried out throughout the work chain. These tests and controls seek to ensure the stability, homogeneity and longevity of the constructed work.

The use of concrete prepared with the DOR quality label has significant advantages over those that only comply with the EHE-08, and that benefits all the agents involved:

  • Promoter: cost savings from promotion,
  • Project author: Lower safety coefficients in materials. Promotion cost savings,
  • Facultative direction: Documentary control and work are more comfortable. They can assess the convenience of requiring DOR materials and processes even if they are not in the project.
  • Builder: fewer specimens, less control, faster concreting (if the reinforcement has DOR).
  •  # Manufacturer: By ensuring quality and variability, the absolute strength requirements are lower.

Since 2002 our Firm develops projects in the construction sector. At present, we are one of the leading engineering companies in the application of sectoral standards following Directive 89 / 106CEE (currently Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011). Since 2008, we have been developing projects in concrete plants throughout Spain.

Our projects in concrete plants with quality hallmarks are based on three backbones:

  • Certification body: support and advice in inspections.
  • Control on the product (laboratory tests on the stock). Statistical analysis of results.
  • Control over processes: organisational system or Factory Production Control (FPC).

The three axes are essential. It is not possible to display a quality badge without their joint contribution. We structure our projects to obtain the DOR distinction for the concrete in a coherent and interrelated way, and the FPC acts as the backbone of the system.

Our experience and qualification are endorsed by the leading certification entities and ensure a proven and solvent work in the plants where we work.

This solution is aimed at
  • Concrete plants

Synergies
Companies can complement the certified product mark for structural concrete with other control systems, such as product control (for example, CE marking of aggregates), quality (ISO 9001), standardisation of organisations, sustainability (ISO 14001, EPD...) and occupational health and safety (ISO 45001).
